Famous in Kunming (May 2004) -- Part 4

____
Three Chinese Nationality Representatives -- Jing Po, Wa and Sui.

On the fifth day in Kunming, for the exhibitiion of my Dad's 1945 colored photographs, we were taken to explore Yunnan's Nationality Village. There are 56 native cultures or ethnic groups in China. Well over ninty percent of people in China are Han Chinese. The rest of the population is made up of 55 different ethnic groups. The Southwest Province of Yunnan (shown below on the map) is remote and mountainous and borders Burma (Mynamar), Laos, Vietnam and four provinces of China including Tibet. Because of these factors there are 26 ethnic groups that inhabit Yunnan, which makes it the most culturally diverse province of China. Currently the Nationalities Village has 13 of Yunnan's nationality groups represented. The master plan is to represent all of the groups and also to have an "old Kunming" town (where Dr. Millett's 1945 colored photographs will be on permanent display)..
