Malaysia and Climbing Mount Kinabalu

To celebrate the 2010 New Year Jin Fei Bao and Li Jia went on a holiday to Malaysia. Fei Bao writes: "We had an awesome journey! During the trip, we climbed Mount Kinabalu which is the tallest mountain in Malaysia with a height of 4,095 meters (13,435 ft) above sea level. It is located in Kinabalu National Park (a World Heritage site) in the Malaysian state of Sabah. Its beautiful surroundings and thick forests were even beyond our expectations. We were totally enthralled by its beautiful scenery.

The hotel in the city of Kota Kinabalu and the harbor -- indeed, talk about beautiful! Malaysia consists of two areas, peninsula Malayasia and Malaysia on the island of Borneo. Kota Kinabalu and Mt. Kinabalu are on the island area.

That's where we're going and some of us are going to carry the kitchen sink!

Into the forest and a note from wikipedia: "Mount Kinabalu and its surroundings are among the most important biological sites in the world, with over 600 species of ferns, 326 species of birds, and 100 mammalian species identified. Significantly, Mount Kinabalu is well-known worldwide for its tremendous botanical and biological species biodiversity, with high levels of endemism (i.e. species which are found only within Kinabalu Park and are not found anywhere else in the world). As examples, it has one of the world’s richest orchid flora with over 800 species, over 600 species of ferns (more than the whole of Africa’s 500 species) of which 50 are found no where else, and is the richest place in the world for the Nepenthes insectivorous pitcher plants (five of the thirteen are found nowhere else on earth) which reach spectacular proportions ,,,"

We come upon a "lizard," maybe a Komodo Dragon.

We leave the forest far behind and head toward the peak.
